Insights and observations from the DepEd visit to APC

Local Department of Education (DepEd) officials visited APC on 9 September to obtain feedback on the school’s compliance with educational standards and practices.

Ms Mary Gladys Dublas, Private Schools Coordinator, and Ms Lucell Joy Tonog, Project Development Officer from the DepEd Malaybalay City Division visited the grade school campus and were assured that the school’s government permits are correctly displayed in the school manager’s office.

In the high school campus, the Abbreviated Teaching Plans (ATPs), particularly those for Grade 7, were reviewed and the DepEd officials were impressed with the organization of the ATPs, noting their clarity and neat presentation. Printed samples of the teaching materials were collected for further review.

The duration of classes in APC was a key topic discussed as the DepEd representatives noted that the class times in the APC school exceed the recommendations outlined in the MATATAG curriculum. For example, while the MATATAG curriculum recommends 40 minutes for kindergarten classes and 45 minutes for Grades 1-10, the school’s classes are scheduled for 50 minutes. A suggestion was made to align class times more closely with the recommended duration.

The DepEd representatives were positive about the increase in licensed professional teachers at APC and praised the clean and environmentally friendly campus. They acknowledged the school’s unique position as an Indigenous institution within the private education sector and appreciated its commitment to maintaining high standards in both teaching and facilities.

.The visit concluded on a positive note, with the DepEd representatives providing constructive feedback and expressing appreciation for the school’s efforts. They recognized the unique aspects of the institution and offered encouragement as APC continues to meet educational standards and support its students.
